Drilling mud is one kind of liquid containing different components, only when the proportions of each component are correct, the drilling mud could be effective and useful. That's’ why besides the solids removal for the drilling mud, there should be a mud mixing unit to work along with the mud tank for compensating the chemical loss for the drilling mud.

A complete mud mixing unit should contain following items:

1. A mud mixing hopper. It is a Venturi hopper, when linked to a feeding pump, the pump transfers the liquid to pass the Venturi connection quite fast, from one side of the hopper to the other, generating a sucking force when passing by. Meanwhile, there is chemical feeding at hopper. Then the chemicals are in tank and mixed by mud agitators.

2. Centrifugal pump for mixing. A pump is used to transfer mud to pass the Venturi hopper, and it is always a centrifugal pump. GNSB centrifugal pumps are made of forged integrate frame for a stronger structure. Pump casing and pump impellers are always spare parts for a centrifugal pump. And GN uses hard alloy as their material in order to prolong the service time and help to reduce cost for clients.

3. A mud tank. A mud mixing unit is always located together with mud tanks, the tank it located at is called mud mixing tank, while other tanks are regarded as storage tanks. By linked pipelines, a mud mixing pump can suck and discharge mud from any of those tanks. Per end users’ preference or jobsite request, the hopper could be put on tank top, separated from the mixing pump, or located by tank side together with a mixing pump. Also a hopper plus pump could be a small single skid for flexible layout.
