Just days ago, GN Solids Control has provided to a drilling fluids service company in Africa with some mud separation and transferring equipment including 2 sets of fully hydraulic drive decanter centrifuges, and 2 sets of solids vacuum pumps.

The hydraulic drive centrifuge’s model is GN GNLW363D-FHD, which is a 14 inch bowl decanter centrifuge. It is the most popular model among GN Centrifuges and also a common size in oil and gas industry. Since most of GN clients prefer the electric controlled GNLW363-VFD Centrifuges, here are some information between the two similar models:

A. Both GNLW363-FHD and GNLW363-VFD Centrifuges have same centrifuge main body, so the capacity is same. Max capaicity with water is 45cbm/hr, typical capacity 30cbm/hr. Based on different material (with different dencity and viscosity), the actual capacities differ quite a lot. But both of those centrifuges are undoubted to be suitable for drilling mud solids control and waste management purpose.

B. For both VFD and Hydraulic driven centrifuges, the speeds can be adjusted. During operation, you can adjust the bowl speed, differential speed in order to achieve best performance. Some clients prefer Hydraulic ones, they think the hydraulic controlled centrifuge is more stable and has a larger torque.
Most clients choose VFD controls because the operating is easier and more cost-effective considering the price and daily operating and maintenance costs.

C. Applications of the centrifuges: the decanter centrifuges are widely used in separation works including oil and gas solids control, waste management, animal waste treatment, beverage and food separation and etc. Such centrifuges are also used in some refinary plants for treatment of oily sludge separation, but in those cases, centrifuge is not the only equipment. There are other equipment to be used together and centrifuge is only one step of the whole procedure. For example, before the centrifuge, we use shakers to remove large particles, and we add chemicals into the sludge before entering into centrifuge.
