Trenchless Drilling is a quite common kind of drilling in cities. Such drillings are only allowed with a limited space, that’s why for this kind of drillings, the end users always need a more compact mud unit. Because in trenchless drilling the drilling medium is water without any chemical, the separation work is a bit easier. A desander is enough.

GN Solids Control is professional in making this kind of desander units for years. GN Desander Units are designed in one skid combining 2 steps of separation, the shale shaker as the 1st step and the desanding cones as the 2nd. Details as below:

1. Shale shaker. It is not a single shale shaker on the compact Desanding Unit. The lower deck of the desander serves the shaker’s function by receiving the drilling mud from the back. The shaker’s inlet is always a 6 inch pipe connected to a slurry pump. And the shaker is always equipped with screens of API 10 or API 20 to remove the large particles.

2. Catch tank. There is a small catch tank below the shaker, and the liquid phase discharged by the shaker flows into this catch tank, then to be pumped up to the desanding cone/cones for 2nd step separation.

3. Centrifugal pump. A centrifugal pump is mounted on side of the catch tank with a suction pipe linked into tank for sucking mud to the desanding cones.

4. Desanding cone/cones and underflow shaker. Desanding cone is the 2nd step separation. Its diameter is 10 inch, which is suitable for separating out particles above 40 microns, the sands. Its underflow shaker helps to make the sands dryer before discharging, and in the whole desading unit, it is the upper layer deck, which is always equipped with API 40 or API 60 screens.
